Our fundraising efforts have raised €112,000 against an expenditure of €129,000. So, we will be hoping that everyone will support our 10th Anniversary birthday fundraising events. The Summer Draw, Doggie Fun-d-Day in September, our Big Birthday Coffee Mornings in October and to finish our year a Winter Fete in November.
We are well and truly into kitten season and, to some extent, puppy season. Plus not a day goes by without more and more abandonments and pleas for help. Sadly our hands are tied when we have no available fosterers, and that’s the case right now – so if you have ever thought about fostering, please contact us at enquiries@lesamisdesanimaux.com. These are some of the more notable expensive rescues in the last 6 months:
We started the year with one of our biggest fundraisers – TAG – a young dog who shortly after adoption fell down a lot and cried when he struggled to get up. He was in a lot of pain. It had been thought that he had no muscle mass from a life of no exercise but visits to the vet, and a number of X-rays later, revealed the awful news that Tag was suffering from severe hip dysplasia and was about to face a life of unrelenting and excruciating pain. He needed a double hip replacement €10,000 was needed for the complex surgery which took place in Italy at the European specialist for this. He had 2 operations to replace both hips and now he has just been given the all clear to lead the normal life of a 18 month-old dog.
Next was OREO – a Siberian Husky who was rescued from the streets of Qatar and brought to France and was found to be going blind. Two operations were carried out by a specialist ophthalmic vet and his remaining sight has been saved and he found his new home in July.
MUNETTE was a young cat found injured having been savaged by a dog. She stayed in the vets for several weeks before making a full recovery. She is now in a foster home and looking for a forever place of her own.
BLUE – is a Griffon Bleu de Gascogne X rescued with severe infection in his ear. Following treatment, he was adopted but recently problems have reoccurred which required surgery. Again, Les Amis covered the bill.
Recently we have had the FAB FOUR – a litter of hours old puppies dumped at Le Vernet – 2 developed major problems and were hospitalised twice and sadly we lost one puppy as it had an inoperable spinal condition but the other 3 are now 8 weeks old and soon to go to their new homes.
Lastly dear CLIFF, a Lifetime Foster who had had an awful life up to joining his foster family and had developed rear leg problems. He has now been operated on and is recovering at home.
These are just some of the cases we have helped back to health. But sometimes it takes money just to get them into their forever happy homes:
Who remembers RAINETTE who was dumped at the SPA heavily pregnant. She was taken into emergency foster and gave birth to 3 stillborn puppies but one survived, named VITA. Both dogs have been happily rehomed.
Then there’s GAIA and all her family – whelped by one of our experienced fosterers and rehomed – now they are like one big family on the litter group.
KALY – was in several foster homes, huge botched up leg problems, she was fallen in love with, and she hung in there waiting and then waiting more with problems, but finally adopted.
4 hoarded dogs – loads of confusion which was which – LANA, LENA, MAYA and LEANA – but all ultimately adopted and living happy ever after.
And we must mention MAIKO the deaf Patou – never thought for a minute we’d be able to find him a new home – he came via people who were involved in another refuge. But we did!
