Xena’s Little Legend

Apollo had a pretty dramatic start to life. His mum Xena was left at the refuge a few days before Christmas 2024 about to give birth. Sadly two pups didn’t make it and Apollo was born, rather unceremoniously, in the boot of the car on the way to safety.

Xena was a fantastic mummy and Apollo followed in her steps. He was one tough cookie health-wise and has thrived. Alongside that physical toughness was a glorious temperament! Down as a “chien courant” his Dad was likely an Ariegeois given the length of his ears which exceed those of his Mum!

When Apollo was just three weeks old they went to our “Super Fosterer”, Ailichia where they settled in perfectly and Apollo learned to live with other dogs, cats and kittens, children and a highly active household. Once Apollo was weaned, Xena was adopted but tragically she was hit by a car and killed when out walking with her new family.

Apollo was also adopted by a wonderful family with lots of other paws for company. He has flourished and is a beautiful boy inside and out. A credit to Xena. He grew from a tiny dot to a strapping young man and the family adore him.

“Apollo first came to us in March 2024 at nearly 4 months old. Straight away he was a very affectionate boy both with us and his new doggie brother and sister.

Just over a year on and he has grown into a beautiful boy. He is now 34 kilos of love and playfulness, though can be stubborn when the desire takes him.

He likes to try and be the prewash setting as we are loading the dishwasher and being a hound is very vocal and sounds like a cross between a seal and Chewbacca.

We really cannot imagine a world without him in it. He is family and we love him.”
