Beau, ‘the ugly duckling’, is now a swan!

Before you go thinking that we’re now branching out to rehoming birds, Beau is a pretty kitty and this week’s story is all about him!

Beau was handed to our fosterer, Andrea, when he was found last year in a shopping bag by a neighbour. He was just a few weeks old, skinny, starving, riddled with parasites and had a bad case of ringworm. Beau soon began to gain weight, although, curing the ringworm was an uphill battle. Yet despite his skin problems, he was a happy, confident and affectionate little kitten.

For the second stage of his foster recovery, Beau moved homes to continue his treatment with Monica. Some of the lovely things mentioned below are what she had to say about this characterful little bundle of fun:

During his ordeal with ringworm, Beau remained a happy and typically confident little kitten. One of his many funny traits was the ability to hold a conversation during his frequent baths. I’m pretty sure that this was him telling me that he’d rather be eating or curled up having a cuddle! Beau certainly enjoyed a good chinwag and responded when you talked to him. Once his bath was over, it was time to apply his cream, which he calmly allowed you to do. On some occasions, he was so relaxed that he would actually fall asleep while I was applying it. He really is a funny little fella! If he didn’t fall asleep, he would just calmly sit or stand while I applied the cream and I didn’t even need to hold him. He is a very trusting and sweet soul that shows his caring side with the cuddles he gives. After his ringworm was pretty much gone, I was finally able to give him more freedom, which he loved. When I was in the kitchen, he would play or relax on a kitchen chair, watching the world go by or just fall asleep. One time, whilst I was putting together a piece of furniture on the floor, he came over, lay down right beside me and watched what I was doing, offering advice, where needed! He just loves to be near people. It was wonderful to have helped in his recovery.

Finally, after many weeks, new fur began to cover his bald spots and hurray, he was pronounced ringworm-free and ready for adoption.

Because ringworm is so infectious, Beau had not been able to socialise with any other animals, so introductions to the dog and other cats in his new home were made once he’d been given the all clear. The result is that Beau is now a very happy and relaxed member of ‘the gang’, enjoying a great life in an idyllic rural setting.
