What do you say about a dog who is just a joy to have around? We could comment on the somewhat grey muzzle which makes her appear older than she is. We could bemoan the fact that her breed is so difficult to define that she is just labeled as a “cross” by a vet.

However the truth of the matter is that Cheyenne has little to criticize her. She is a good all-rounder, gets on well with everyone and everything, is elegant in appearance, runs like the wind, and yet sticks to your side.  She is naturally one of those dogs that does not put on weight – she eats like a horse, has of course been wormed, but still does not pile on the weight.

She was abandoned to a refuge in Tarbes along with her mother because of the death of the owner – and the usual situation of the family having no interest in them or the ability to adjust lives to keep them. Very very unusually, the older dog was adopted first, leaving Cheyenne on her own, probably for the first time in her life. She did not do well and to add insult to injury she managed to badly damage her foot, which then got infected.

So we took on a dog who was having difficulty walking because of the pain, but who never moaned, groaned or showed the least aggression when being examined by her fosterer’s vet.

She has mingled and settled with the whole pack – dogs and cats alike. She has attached herself to her fosterer yet is happy to be left with the rest of the pack if she has to go out. She is good on the lead, and has mastered several basic commands.  Car travel is not her forte, but that is likely to be lack of custom.

“She is just so adorable.  The speed she runs I think she must have whippet in her.  Does not leave my side and loves cuddles.”
