HEIDI is the sweetest girl, who had obviously never been given the love she deserves. Her foster family are making up for that and she is responding in her gentle way with gratitude and a smile.
Because of her likely circumstances – we know she was left alone with two other dogs and just fed by kind neighbours for two years since the owner died – she had had little experience of the world. Little by little she is getting used at her own pace to being in the midst of family life, to going out and about, and doing and meeting new things.
She is still a little wary of loud big teenage boys(but who wouldn’t be!!!). That said, HEIDI is beginning to make her own choices of whether to stay in her “safe place” in the family home (a dog bed under the dining room table), or to come out and join in with whatever is going on (an example being a rowdy game of Monopoly though we believe she did not actually take part!).
HEIDI loves being outside and joining in with the resident Border Collie as he patrols the garden perimeters but mostly she just enjoys lying on cushions in the garden watching what is going on or gently dozing.
She is extremely clean. Not only have there been zero accidents since the day she arrived, she actually prefers to do the necessaries out on a walk rather than in the garden!
HEIDI absolutely loves her walks in the forest and is fabulous on and off the lead. Being allowed offlead so quickly is unusual – this is what her Foster Mum said:
We kept her on the lead for the first 4 days but it was soon very obvious that HEIDI was desperate to run with our 2 and by then she was fixed on me. Every day, she now runs with them straight from the garden gate into the forest we back onto. Her recall is instant and after a few rounds of gazelle-like bounding she tends to stay quite close, usually just behind me when I’m running. She is the perfect running partner.
We believe that HEIDI would love being in an active dog family with older children who are patient and kind. She would be very happy with other canines around. (She seems to have learned the rules of the house very quickly by following the lead of the two incumbent dogs.) It is however entirely likely too that she would be fine as an only dog and would adapt well to being someone’s princess! She adores her cuddles but is neither pushy nor demanding. She has made sloping up onto the sofa with head on knee quite a speciality.
Whoever welcomes the sweet gentle HEIDI into their lives will be blessed with a dog lifetime of pure love, companionship and loyalty.
HEIDI is currently fostered in Department 09 – Ariège – but is available for adoption anywhere in France subject to a successful home check. If you would like to know more about HEIDI, have the opportunity to meet her either virtually or in reality, you can:
