Hello! I’m LEIKA and I’m a beautiful and unusual mix of sharpei and, we think – as I never knew my Dad – a retriever of some sort. I am totally black with a plume tail.

What is really peculiar about me is that I like to talk in a low, growly sort of way – it is my way of communicating with my humans, with other animals and even with my toys, my favourite of which is a cuddly duck I like to carry out with me. I do of course bark, but only rarely, like when someone is at the door. Don’t see the point of it really.

I love to play, especially with my foster siblings but also I don’t mind playing on my own. I even like playing with the cat but then sometimes they run away – not at all sure what that’s about as I don’t want to do them any harm, I just think they want to play chase. Chickens too are interesting and I’d like to play with them – but my foster mum say ‘no’ even though she knows I don’t want to hurt them, just play. I just love running around the garden and my most favourite of all, rolling on my back in the grass!

Food is really exciting – at least its preparation is and I tend to bounce up and down in excitement. Then when it arrives I sit nicely until it is served. I tend to take my time eating but always finish. This really frustrates those who gobble their food and I warn them to keep off mine. I don’t mind of course if my foster mum gets hold of my dish as I know she’s not going to eat it, but those greedy siblings would. As far as food goes I am cheap to run. I have a low allergen food – foster Mum gets it from Lidl so its not expensive but good quality.

My vocabulary is quite good too and I am bilingual in No, Wait, Stay, Back, and Sit. I also know Come and usually do. Occasionally I have selective deafness as my foster mum calls it . . . but that’s only because there is something more interesting in that moment. I always turn up!  I am also very very clean, sleep all through the night and am generally just a dream to have around! I’m good in the car and extremely well behaved when left in the house with my foster siblings.

I’ve had very messy eyes all my life.  Apparently by eyelids turn inwards and that is really painful –  but they are going to be made better very soon – I’m looking forward to that.
