OSSAU is now awaiting his adoptive home. He has been in foster to help him overcome the effects of mistreatment as a puppy and is now a happy, and relatively stable young chap for his age. His abject fear of men has greatly decreased, but it is still there and he may have the occasional misgivings and become skittish if approached directly and rapidly by a man.
However – this boy who was so mistreated by a male or males of some sort, adores his foster Dad, seeks cuddles and affection from him in a confident way . . . which tells us he is going to be OK.
OSSAU came into foster knowing absolutely nothing – difficult to believe in a dog already several months old. Now he is clean in the home, has learned to sit, and above all has learned to copy his “siblings” and understands play. He is living happily with three dogs including two other Pyreneans. He is attending puppy classes and making progress if somewhat slowly – he is absolutely not food orientated. . . . though foster Mum thinks she may have found his Achilles’ heel – cheese!
We would very much like OSSAU to be welcomed into a home where there is at least one other PMD and therefore a family with experience of the breed. Because he is young and the breed by its nature is slow maturing, it is going to take some time for him to turn into the marvellous adult dog we know he can be. He needs consistency, love, and understanding. With those in place he will be just simply magnificent.
OSSAU is currently in foster in Department 31 (Haute Garonne) but the right home is far far more important than location. We have dogs successfully adopted all over France and farther afield. Please read about our adoption process here.
