Spread the word

OWEN came to us as an urgent re-home as his owner was moving abroad.  Interestingly it transpired that we had already helped to re-home his Dad (a full boxer) and his brother a few months ago.  There was insufficient time to find OWEN a permanent home before his owner left and so he went into foster.

Doing so was a good test as OWEN had been an only dog and had spent a great deal of time alone in the garden when his owner was out at work.  And he has proved himself very adaptable.    He now lives with another male dog, and two children – one just a toddler.  He can, like any other young dog, be a bit boisterous in his enthusiasm for life but good and regular exercise is sufficient to ensure a quieter time at home!

Learning to share a household with other dogs can be daunting for a dog who has been an “only dog”.  In other words it means he has never had to learn to share toys, nor even to eat alongside another dog.  This is all being incorporated as part of his learning so that he can have the choice of a home with another dog, or as an only dog.   And so far OWEN is doing really well.

Leadwork is enthusiastic at first but then well settled to the extent that he is often handled (with supervision of course) by a dog-confident 9 year old.  OWEN travels well in a car settling easily to let the journey pass.  On off-lead walks he has excellent recall – even with distractions!  (It is not very often we can report that in a dog!).  He is a dog that wants to please and to learn – being food-orientated is a huge bonus for training!

OWEN ideally needs a family that can keep his interest in learning, give him regular good exercise,  and ideally have a canine companion to play with.

If he has captured your heart and you would like the possibility of offering OWEN a forever home, please contact us on info@lesamisdesanimaux.com.  Information about our adoption process can be found here

OWEN is in foster in Department 24 (Dordogne).  As always the right home is far more important than location.
