Please meet PAYOLLE who is a full-bred Pyrenean Mountain Dog or, as known in the States, The Great Pyrenean, while in his land of origin, the Pyrenées, the breed is known as the PATOU.  This word comes from the Occitane, “Pastor” or “shepherd”. 

PAYOLLE has been so very very unlucky in his life and even under our care this has continued and we desperately want to change that.  Please can his third time be a lucky one?  

Reserved for months, then cancelled; currently been in trial adoption but this has not worked out – just not a good match.  This boy so so deserves a chance – and we are determined it will be third time lucky..  

 What do we know about PAYOLLE?   He is typical of many so-called “gentle giants” . . . 

• A truly kind and gentle soul.  He is not at all needy and is undemanding yet grateful for his human’s attention and time. 
• He loves to know that there is human company around.  However we do feel that this might develop further into a love of being stroked and lying at someone’s feet once he gets the chance of a home of his own. 
• He adapts very quickly to a simple routine and asks no more than to be able to pootle around during the day, wandering from space to space – from observation post to bed; to sunshine – to shade.
• He would suit a sedate life – a gentle walk and a plop in a cooling stream – nothing more strenuous than that.
• He is remarkably easy to walk – no lead pulling at all!
• He will live outside and do his job (guarding the place at night, barking to ward off intruders).  However, far better if he was given the chance to live inside where he knows he is NOT on duty and therefore can relax.
• He loves and appreciates being groomed – the benefits of which he has recently been learning about!

PAYOLLE has not had an easy life at all – not through overwork, but through lack of care in his early years.   So he appears older than he actually is.   He is not a gourmand, would probably prefer to be able to graze during the course of the day and so it would not bother him to be an only dog.   He has no problems with other dogs – he just ignores them (even when faced with bared teeth!).   He is rather too keen and curious with cats that we are looking for a cat-free home for him.  He is not fazed by livestock – including horses.

He does have arthritis and he requires ongoing monitoring.  For this reason and despite his age,  PAYOLLE would be eligible as a lifetime fosterling under our wing.  

PAYOLLE’S PARADISE would be a farm or a house with plenty of outside space where he can happily wander around to his heart’s content.  Then he could be the inside/outside dog he’s bred to be and do a form of  the job he was bred to do – protect and take care of his “flock”.
