PINKY was abandoned at the refuge by a homeless person because he had a home to go to . . . but no dogs allowed. If he had had a hard life . . . then you know that Pinky had too. Yet she was loyal and could not understand why she had been left. Her confusion was seen by one of our team and so we determined to try and get her out as refuge life was not for her.
PINKY has been in foster for a couple of months now and is ready for her forever home. During this time she has come on by leaps and bounds, again confounding the adage of not being able to teach an “old” dog new tricks. This 8 year old is a very happy learner.
Being a labrador x boxer she was undoubtedly “porky” when she came out of the refuge. Refusing to eat was not one of her stress indicators! But lack of exercise and lots of croquettes made for a rather bulky girl. So, in addition to being sterilised, and learning the ropes of living in a house, she has been on a strict diet and is now weighing in at pretty much her correct weight for her breed type and size.
PINKY is very well behaved outside both on and off the lead. So, although she is what some might call a large dog, she is in fact easy to work with and handle because of her obedience. Her one downfall – again probably because of her life-experience – is that she does not like being left alone and yet this is a necessity where she is currently fostered. The upshot is that she is now very successfully crate-trained for those moments when she needs to be left. She is at home in her crate, and even retreats there willingly just for a break.
PINKY lives well in the home in all respects – and particularly likes a lap or a sofa. She also loves to be outside and would benefit from a large garden in which she can mooch around. She does however need to benefit from regular walking which she loves. We also think that given time she would enjoy swimming – something she has clearly not experienced before.
PINKY needs her forever family. She is such a good all-rounder that we would have no hesitation putting her with children, and she is faultless with cats. She could be an only dog, or happy with another dog. Therefore she is ideal for an older couple or person looking for a dog to enjoy but also one about which there is no concern for visiting grandchildren.
PINKY is now in foster in Department 66 (Pyrenées Orientales) and ready for adoption. If you think she would suit your family situation, then please
