[socialicons]Please meet our courageous ROBI, a 12 month old German Shorthaired Pointer. He’s just finished his first real “job” as a model for his Foster Mum’s advice sheet in hot weather. Doesn’t he look great? And he’s a model dog in many other ways too.
ROBI has been in foster for a few months now where he has become a charming and polite young dog. Still going through the “teenage” stage in some ways , but a real joy to have around. He is very ready to find his very own forever home.
His back story may not be the happiest but he is certainly making up for it every day now.
ROBI’s confidence continues to grow and he is very much a normal dog loving doing normal things. ROBI has the most delightful temperament and is a cuddle bunny once he feels comfortable around the person he is with. Once attached he is devoted to that person. Having another dog in the family is going to be a real boon because he has been fostered in an environment that is dedicated to dogdom!!! He has friends galore and is always very happy to play. Anything from 1 to 4 dogs in the home would suit him down to the ground!!! What however is equally important is for him to have his human. The person who can continue to help him expand his world, introduce him gradually and gently to new experiences that he can enjoy, help him continue to grow in confidence around what to ROBI are “strange new things”.
This boy is not a city boy but is used to a suburban environment combined with countryside outings. He’s a sun lover and will bag the sun lounger if he gets the chance!
His Foster Mum says:
ROBI is a cheeky little man now, loves to be in the middle of everything and is very curious. He also likes to talk and is very eager to learn.

HOW FAR ROBI HAS COME:
Initially very traumatised, he has learned that life is about kindness and love. Other canines have helped give him this confidence – he can follow their trust. He knows this from his past life. He is also learning that humans are really trustworthy and kind as well. This was not the case in the past and, although he was not subjected to abuse or mistreatment, he was certainly neglected badly and had no bonding opportunities.
It’s difficult to imagine the journey this boy has been on: completely shut down and afraid of the big world; never experienced a harness, collar or lead, isolated from the world, not known grass under his past – and to reach the lovely dog he is today. ROBI has learned to trust his family, accept his harness on and the absolute joy of walks. New people can still scare him and his reflex response is to retreat. However as his foster family work on this, as his experiences become wider and wider, there is constant but necessarily slow progress.
ROBI’S FUTURE
ROBI will need a patient family willing to give Robi the time he needs to settle, learn and grow. The presence of another dog or dogs will help enormously. As with many traumatised dogs, the process is slow – there’s no quick fix but he is ready now to start that journey with his permanent family. We will be there to help to support and guide where needed and we shall take great delight in watching him grow into the beautiful and confident family dog that his sister has now become.
