Helping Paw for River
River is a 13 week old kitten, a mini ‘gentle giant’ who wears his heart on his sleeve (he has a heart shaped spot on his right shoulder), who will charm you with his purrs and cuddles.
River and his brother, Rain, were taken into foster with Les Amis as tiny three day old kittens, with their umbilical cords still attached. They were found alone in a school loft, lying in fibreglass, which is extremely irritating to skin. As a result River had sores and scabs on his back paws, armpits, and belly. Sadly, Rain did not survive the night and River found himself alone without his brother.
River was bottle fed and given endless affection and love in his foster home. He was lucky enough to have another tiny, abandoned kitten join him a week later in foster so he got to be raised with another brother. He would roll around the floor to get where he wanted to go before he could walk. He is a happy kitten, purring as soon as you look at him, and playful and mischievous, but also affectionate and confident, and he loves to cuddle.
Unfortunately, on Wednesday River caught his paw in the door while he was playing behind it, and in his effort to break free, he pulled very hard. He broke his leg just above the paw, and pulled his tendon.
He was rushed to the vet and the next day underwent specialist surgery.
River is home now but has to stay in an enclosure for one month. Not an easy task for a young kitten! He has to take medication and has vet visits on the 9th to change the bandage and check the wound, the 17th to remove the stitches and have an x-ray, and another x-ray in a month.
All told, the vet bills will be between 1500 and 1600 euros.
