Belle was sadly found abandoned in summer 2024. She’s a 10 year old small GSD type girl, who is described as a gentle, kind, affectionate lady. All she needed was a new start to see out her twilight years. She is so great with other dogs and she passed her cat testing with flying colours too, so was easy to place!
Around the same time, a lady called Sibel who had lost two of her faithful companions recently, in quick succession, contacted Les Amis and wrote ‘My heart and house feel empty’. So we got to work to find a perfect match for Sibel, she eventually adopted the very gorgeous pup Finn. He was only a youngster and fitted perfectly into her home. Sibel is used to having dogs, plural, so she was more than happy to take another dog into her home and Belle looked like she would fit in beautifully!
Belle had quite a few ‘teething’ problems at the beginning. Sibel has an outside cat, horses and chickens. Belle was far too interested in the livestock and all she wanted was to chase them. It was unclear if she just wanted to play with them or worse but, she was very reactive towards them. Sibel tried lots of different training methods to try and desensitise Bella so the household could be harmonious once again. Bella was put on a long lead and given commands to dissuade her from taking any notice of the chickens too. It’s a good job the outside cat is a Ninja, as Bella is very intelligent but, still cannot climb trees! Sibel took the heartbreaking decision to ask us to rehome her as it just wasn’t working. Whilst we were trying to find a new home for Bella, Sibel was continuing to try and train Bella to be a good girl around the other animals as she absolutely loved her. Inside the home she was a super friendly dog and got on so well with their other rescue Finn, Sibel was so torn.
During our search to find a new home, Belle had started to settle as Sibel had done an amazing job with her and hadn’t given up on her! She has had to change a lot in the house so that everyone can live together, but we take our hats off to Sibel for never giving up. A huge thank you for all your hard work with Belle, it’s lovely that she is now feeling settled and being the best ‘Granny’ for Finn.
