PIXEL was in the refuge for three years – can you believe it? Three years for a lovely, gentle Braque but labelled as a “chasse dog” and his ability to get on with other dogs unknown. Les Amis at the time were helping to re-home those who had been in the refuge far too long. And so his chance came when Michael saw him and took him into his heart and home as a lifetime fosterling in 2020 when Pixel was already ten. This is what he had to say at the time:-
HOME PIXEL! Seniors are the best
Love at first sight…what a kind, sweet, gentle soul. He wants so much to be loved and to give love. He is gentle and patient. Wise and well trained. It totally escapes me why such an amazing soul would have to wait three long long years to find his way into a home. Unlike having a puppy, these humble sweet seniors arrive typically housebroken and well trained. The thought of a puppy, it was sweet, but also, I knew they would require so much time and patience, the chewing and the other things. This fella came ready to enjoy…and the added bonus of being wise and full of gratitude for being brought into a home full of love. If anyone out there is not sure about adopting or foster caring a senior, this is my second and I have only one regret, I didn’t do it sooner. Give these guys a life, a home, a chance, you won’t regret it.
Unfortunately for PIXEL and Michael, circumstances changed and Michael had to return to USA without his beloved dog. He had put PIXEL in a home-from-home pension thinking he was going on holiday and would be back. A year passed. One of his best friends was Elise who walked with her rescue dog Lipton and Pixel. Her circumstances changed and she was able to add Pixel to her pack. By this time he was 14 and he took to his new life like a duck to water. He is quite naturally ageing and this is what she says about this rather fantastic boy today:
PIXEL is 15 now; in fact in April 2025. He is almost deaf but will still bark with all the other dogs, although he is not sure what for! He loves his walks but will only go with me! However, he can bumble around on the farm on his own or with the pack as much as he pleases. He is blind in one eye but this doesn’t stop him doing anything he wants.
