Some of you may have seen LILI’s story in our Senior Moment post recently, but I wanted to give some more perspective on this.

As a friend of mine is her life-time fosterer, I saw Lili a day or two after she arrived – scared, dreadful skin infection with raw patches, growling as if to say “you are NOT making me go anywhere else” and really not welcoming – understandably so. She had decided that our friend’s outside gite kitchen was her home, and she was not coming out for anyone.

Her claws had been cut the day before so at least she could move around with slightly more ease, but had, seemingly, not been used to exercising much for a while, and her back end was quite wobbly.

Jump forward one month – ONE MONTH – is all. She now has a glossy coat thanks to two special shampoos a week, with quite a lion’s mane (some collie maybe?), the raw patch on her tail is gone and she is SO cheeky! She still keeps to her own accommodation (!) but is happy to “visit” the main house but, more importantly, any visitors like us who come by! She will accept a little stroke and was very happy for my husband to stroke her as long as she is made aware of what is going to happen. She can’t hear well but she has such a personality. We had drinks and nibbles outside – LILI thought this a great idea. She spent quite some time manoeuvring the tables and chairs to get easier access to everything! She grabbed one of t hose little plastic candles where you press the bottom to get the “flame” but I managed to get that off her – then it was a whole pile of paper serviettes! We had great fun – she is very funny, extremely and follows her foster Mum continually – who is the only one allowed to give her kisses on her nose. When she had decided it was time, she took herself off to bed!

There is NO ADOPTION FEE for these older souls – Les Amis will meet any extraordinary Vets fees (but not regular worming and vaccines). So PLEASE do consider giving one of these lovely oldies some happiness. It is humbling to see how a dog can understand when people are helping and to feel safe enough to have a personality. LILI has a huge garden to wander around in at will but, even if it wasn’t that big, she wouldn’t do walks. She just wants to potter (like a lot of us!). As we say, SOFA TIME, LAP TIME AND TLC – this is all we, and especially they, ask.
