Every week on the Support Page on Facebook we write a story for #winningwednesday and #throwbackthursday to show you the success stories; Les Amis ex-fosterlings and adoptees living their best lives thanks to what we can do because of your support.
These are some of our favourites:
Bailey – one of LADA’s very early adoptees.
Then…. In 2017, Neige (now Bailey), an ex-hunting dog, was recovering from an operation to remove a lump from his head. He went to a lovely fosterer who also discovered that he was deaf which explained a lot about him. In the words of his fosterer “He became great friends with my rescue Lilly from Romania and today they are still great friends, always together and always snuggled up together. It didn’t take us long to realise he was going to stay with us and we adopted him. If ever there was a perfect dog then Bailey is your dog. He is very loyal and loving and we wouldn’t be without him ❤️. He’s lush! ”.
Now…. 19 years young and still enjoying life!
Wilbur
Then…. Abandoned and left with his siblings in an awful state at the refuge.
Now… .living his best life in Scotland with Fiona and Ben as a companion for their eldest son. “When he’s struggling Wilbur manages to put a smile on his face. He’s a gentle giant around the house and we love him dearly.”
Simba
Then…. In June 2022, Simba, aged three, fell from a fourth floor apartment balcony – for the second time. His owners wanted to euthanise him but the vet felt it best to amputate his broken leg, the cost of which was paid by Les Amis des Animaux. A wonderful foster family was found to help Simba recover for a few weeks before going to his permanent family. Simba quickly made himself at home but did not enjoy being confined in an apartment and it was agreed that he would do better with an outside space available.
Now….His foster family adopted him and renamed him Robin. He very quickly adapted to his three-legged countryside life with 3 young children, another cat, and chickens. Robin landed in his perfect family!
Roly
Then….Roly, a Berger Hollandaise, was abandoned in the Dordogne in early summer of 2023 weighing only 13 kg. The two good souls who found him brought him home, loved him, fed him, taught him some commands, and took him to the vet. Soon Roly weighed 35 kg and was a happy family dog. However, his rescuers were getting a little older and felt they couldn’t give a young, energetic dog all the exercise he needed. So the search was on for a loving, suitable home for Roly.
Now….A perfect ‘match’ was found: a breed specialist who loved Bergers. Roly is happy with his new family and his family is very happy with him. We do love a happy ending!
Monty, Maxwell and Marvin! A trio of gorgeous gingers.
Then….Monty arrived as a tiny kitten and was adopted as a companion for a very nervous cat, Hervé. Sadly Hervé died soon afterwards so the search was on for a playmate for Monty. Maxwell and his littermate were found abandoned in the rubbish bins of a hospital parking lot. He arrived as a tiny little thing and he and Monty got on very well, cuddling and playing, as they were only about 2 months apart in age. Marvin (originally Ziggy), tiny and terrified, was taken from a severe hoarding case in Lourdes – 52 cats and a dog in an 8th-floor apartment.
Now….3 beautiful cats who found their loving home after rough starts in life. Now see if you can tell them apart in the photos!
